City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head Jose Papa hands Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog the regional award and cash won by Iloilo City Emergency Responders (ICER) from the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Council in late November for first place in the category Best Government Emergency Response Management (Basic Search & Rescue).
The regional award was given by Office of Civil Defense-DND VI regional director Rosario Cabrera during the 2012 Gawad Kalasag ceremonies for recognition of excellence in disaster risk management and humanitarian assistance held November 29 at the Amigo Terrace Hotel.
Besides the plaque, the city government also won the P50,000 top prize money.
Iloilo City also won the award last year, and thanks to Mayor Jed's persisting efforts to improve the skills of ICER members through training and upgrade the ICER's equipment arsenal and mobility, the city responders are getting better and better in responding to emergencies and disasters.
