Fall from a tree


A seven year old, male, patient walked-in through the doors of the Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office at 1:26pm last April 18, 2012 accompanied by his mother seeking medical assistance. The team on duty asked the mother what happened to the patient, the mother told the team that he fell from a tree at Mulley Loney City Proper. ICER assessed the patient and found a possible open fracture on the right elbow. ICER managed the bleeding and immobilized the fractured elbow. The team recommended transport to the hospital for further medical assessment. But due limited gas allocation and all available units are on engaged, the team leader told the patient’s mother to go on their own to the nearest hospital. (ebsp)



Bike Accident at Emcor Diversion Road

Last April 14, 2012, ICER Medic 2 was dispatched to a bike accident in-front of Emcor Diversion Road in Mandurriao, the incident was reported by Police and bystanders. ICER Medic 2 found a male patient sitting at the side of the road with bruises, lacerations and pain in the lower extremities. The patient refused to be transported to the hospital. But he told the crew that he will wait for his brother residing at Mandurriao. ICER Medic 2 waited for his brother for his proper disposition before proceeding to another call-up in Mandurriao Police Station. (ebsp)




Jaro II Elementary School Fire Call


A fire call was received at 1:40pm, April 18, 2012 from Jaro II Elementary School. The Bureau of Fire and fire volunteers responded to the call. ICER team rushed to provide medical services at the scene. BFP reported, a total of 9 classrooms, 6 of that were totally burned, 3 classrooms were partially burned. Electrical short circuit is the cause of fire as evidence on the scene was noted. No casualties were reported. Fire-fighters took an hour to totally declare fire out by BFP. Good thing there is no class on that day. However books, chairs and educational materials were hit by fire. (ICER-spike)

Broken Glass Walk-in


At past 8 in the evening of April 13, 2012, a male patient came over to the office claiming that he was accidentally injured by a broken bottle at their place. He immediately proceeded to ICER for treatment. He sustain around 1 inch laceration on his left palm. After ICER treated the injury, he signed the refusal for transport form, and went home. Four Drunk Men Accident at Rizal, Lapuz


At exactly 10:53pm at Saturday evening of April 14, 2012, an emergency call from a concerned citizen was received requesting for an emergency response at Brgy. Rizal, Lapuz, La Paz, Iloilo City. The caller only informed the ICER radio / telephone operator about the accident at the said area and dropped the call. ICER ambulance Medic 2 and crew then rushed to the scene after receiving the call.

The incident was a motor vehicle accident wherein a motorcycle rider accidentally crashed to a group of men who’s drinking in front of a sari-sari store at Brgy. Rizal, Lapuz, La Paz. Medic2 then requested for an additional back-up after they found out about the number of injured. All 4 men involved only suffered only minor injuries except the rider and one of from the group of men. The rider managed to run away from the crowd and secured himself to avoid another trouble besides having a suspected fracture on his right ribcage and right shoulder blade based on assessment and was provided with an improvised body splint to stabilize the suspected fracture. The other one from the group of men sustained a laceration on his left foot and suspected to have fracture on both legs based on the assessment conducted by the ICER ambulance crew and was provided with a splint on both legs including bleeding control on his wound..

Four of the men agreed to be taken to the hospital for further medications including the one who’s badly injured. The driver was then separated from the group and was taken to a different hospital of his choice to avoid more problems against the group of men. (ICER-036)





Diversion Road Motorcycle Accident


An emergency call from a member of Kabalikat Civicom was received through radio about a motorcycle accident at Diversion Road, Manduriao in front of SM City Terminal at around 3am, Friday, April 13, 2012. The male victim was badly injured but remains conscious according to the initial information from the caller. ICER (medic3) ambulance and crew rushed to the scene and found the victim inside an unfinished road repair area. The patient was sitting beside his motorcycle full of blood and had a fractured right arm. The ambulance crew provided a cervical collar and a splint to the fractured arm of the patient to stabilize the arm. The patient was then transferred to the spine board and loaded to the ambulance. Additional vital signs were taken and other assessment was made inside the ambulance to provide comfort to the patient. Patient sustained multiple abrasions and an avulsion on his forehead. After a while the crew decided to take the patient to the nearest hospital due to its conditions for further medical attention.

A bystander at the scene blames the improper warning signs without a distance from the reconstructed road, besides the victim’s conditions under the influence of alcohol and without wearing a helmet while driving.

San Domingo Arevalo Motorcycle Accident


People of the barangay at Sto. Domingo, Arevalo, Iloilo City was shocked after seeing what happened on a motor vehicle accident involving two motorcycles near the Petron Gas station at the said barangay at around 8:55pm of April 12, 2012. Everyone worries about the 3 children involved onboard the motorcycle together the father who’s driving. The incident was then reported to the Arevalo Police Station immediately and was relayed to the ICER office. After receiving the call, ICER Medic 2 ambulance together with the crew then rushed to the scene. The team arrived at the scene after 5 minutes of travel from Freedom Grandstand to Sto. Domingo and found the patient lying along the road. The 3 children was already secured by the bystanders and turned over to its folks a minute after the incident. The children are a 5 years old boy, and the other two are girls, 2 years old and a 1 year old. Luckily the children only sustained minor abrasions and the father only sustained abrasions on his left arm and right knee but complains about a pain on his chest.

According to the patient they came from the area of Mohon, Arevalo and towards their home a kilometer away at Sto. Domingo. Four of them including the children was onboard a motorcycle when suddenly another rider following from the back smashed on them. The children and their father were obviously not wearing any helmet during the crash. The other rider involved was lucky enough and did not sustain any injury.

After assessment the ambulance crew decided to transport the patient together with the children and folks to their hospital of choice which is the Savior International Hospital. (ICER-036)




Intercept in Muelle Loney


On April 11, 2012 at around 9pm, a concerned citizen reported that there is a fight going on at Legaspi Street, City Proper. They added that a male around 18-20 years old knock unconscious by his father. Iloilo City Emergency Responders immediately proceed to the scene on board with the person who reported it. While on-towards the scene, passing through Muelle Loney, a tri-sikad (pedicab) driver shouted “He is here!” ICER intercepted and saw the patient is unconscious. ICER loaded the patient at the ambulance and begin assess.  The patient sustained contusion on his forehead. While assessment on going, suddenly woke-up, became restless, pass out again all the while exhibiting tremors. ICER reported to the base what happen and request to for endorsement to St. Paul’s Hospital and proceeded. (ebsp)

Blunt Trauma at Bitoon Jaro

In the mid-morning of April 26, 2012, a call received at Bito-on, Jaro, a girl was hit by an exploded soft drink bottle from a ref when she opened. The team rushed to the scene and found out that the female patient suffered a blunt trauma in her left middle finger and small puncture part of the left eye. ICER team Charlie advised to be suture at the hospital and info the base to inform WVMC hospital in Mandurriao. ICER team Charlie applied dressing in the left middle finger and part of the left eye. Then Medic 3 ambulance proceeded to the hospital. (ebsp)







Zone 6 Divinagracia La Paz Call-up


A call was received at around 7pm last April 22, 2012 from a Barangay Official at the Zone 6 at the back of Lapaz High School they claimed. ICER Medic 2 ambulance proceeded to the said location. Upon arrival at Brgy. Sinikway, ICER team could not locate any patient at the area. The team head back to the back of La Paz High School ask information from the bystanders. But someone from the crowd told us maybe it’s Zone 6, Divinagracia near San Gregorio Subdivision. The team proceeded to the location and finally found the caller and the said patient. The team then checked the patients condition but found no obvious injury except suffering pain on his right knee. The patient said that he suddenly felt terrible pain on his knee which others thought that he broke his leg. Wrong information was then fed by caller to the ICER operator on duty because of panic. After the patient reassessment the team advised the patient to provide cold compress his knee to minimize pain. Drama at Delgado Skywalk


Last March 1, 2012, ICER responded to a suicide attempt at the roof of Delgado skywalk at the crossing of Valeria and Delgado. ICER first to respond at the scene at passed 8:00 in the evening. Together with Barangay Tanod climbed at the roof of the said skywalk and try convinced the women. The women said “Gintonto ko sang boyfriend ko.. Gusto ko mag pakamatay”. The team negotiates with the patient until with no progress. They scrap her down when the patient was caught off guard. The team tries to call any fire truck if they have tall ladder to bring down the patient. Until the Fire Federation base in Mabini responded on the scene with the high rise ladder. After the patient was brought down and loaded to the ambulance. ICER Medic 2 proceeded to St. Paul Hospital for further medical evaluation. (ebsp)















Holy Week 2012 Duties

One of the busiest EMS duties of Iloilo City Emergency Responders (ICER) was the 2012 Holy week. Request from the different churches all over the City who held mass on the Good Friday and Easter Vigil, different holy week parades, religious programs and re-enactments and jelly ports where ICER dispatch for duties. Good Friday on the jelly port started as early as at 5:00am going towards the island Guimaras for Balaan Bukid. Together at the station where the Iloilo Emergency Radio Communication (IERCom) to help with the communication between the two jelly ports in Guimaras and Iloilo City. In the afternoon of the same day, ICER, IERCom and Guimaras Rescue Groups helped people who going back to the main island. Few were injured but no major injuries were reported on both jelly port. On the Easter Vigil Mass on Saturday evening, ICER stand-by station in each major church in the seven district of Iloilo. ICER reported no patient where accounted for. (ebsp)
